Migration background and scope of application

The Altivar Soft Starter ATS480 is one of the main successor platforms to the ATS48. Schneider's replacement documentation covers not only the current rating, but also mechanical installation, electrical connections, configuration, communications and firmware differences, so the replacement should be understood as a controlled migration rather than a simple swap of the same current model.

Usage Recommendations

Use these part numbers to identify legacy equipment and evaluate migration paths. Before ordering, verify the complete ordering code, nameplate, motor or load conditions, existing wiring and required site functions.

Procurement and migration advice

If the legacy part number still has reliable inventory, the purchase of spare parts for the original model can be evaluated first; if the equipment still needs to be operated for a long time, the successor platform should be evaluated simultaneously. For discontinued parts, the real risk is often not "will the new model start?" but rather whether the wiring, communications, software engineering, mounting dimensions, or whether a legacy option will still meet field requirements after migration.

When sending an inquiry, it is recommended to also provide the complete part number, quantity, photo of the equipment nameplate, site voltage/motor parameters, and whether successor models are accepted. In this way, "original model inventory" and "successor model migration" can be compared together as two sets of plans.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can ATS48D32Q be replaced by ATS480D32Y?

This is a common recommended migration direction, but voltage, control power, bypass, communication and original parameter configuration still need to be checked.

Are the terminals of ATS480 and ATS48 exactly the same?

Can't default to being exactly the same. Before replacement, check point by point according to the wiring diagram.

Can the original ATS48 parameters be copied directly?

Key startup/protection parameters should be rechecked against Schneider's migration instructions, and mechanical-only copying is not recommended.

What is most easily overlooked in soft starter replacement?

Bypass loops, control power, communications, and motor starting conditions are usually the areas that require the most validation.

Need to check for a specific legacy part number?

By sending the complete part number, nameplate or BOM, we can confirm the availability of the original model before determining whether a successor model is needed.
